Name of Intermediate Result:  Dependence on imported agricultural inputs reduced

Name of Indicator:  X% of fertilizers and pesticides consumed that are locally produced

DESCRIPTION

Precise Definition(s): 1. Fertilizers and pesticides consumed = Utilization of soil nutrients and plant protecting products.

                                   2. Locally produced = Created and manufactured within the borders of Zambia.

Unit of Measurement: local production and consumption in cubic tons/ total production and consumption in cubic tons= % of locally produced/consumed pesticides and fertilizers in Zambia

Disaggregated By: Age, gender and educational level of farmers.  Age: 17-25, 25-35, 35-50 because there could be a difference in receptiveness to new ideas and practices.  Females could be more receptive to new ideas and practices.  Educational background: no schooling, only primary school, high school graduate, college level and higher because there could be a difference in receptiveness to new ideas and practices.

Justification & Management Utility: If the percentage of locally produced fertilizers and pesticides is increased this demonstrates a reduced dependence on imported agricultural inputs.

Data Collection Method: Structured interviews for the farmers, focused group interviews and statistical review

Data Source: Ministry of Agricultural Statistics, Local Farmer Surveys
