Step 1: situational assessment
1.    Who do you see as the primary beneficiaries of your work (who is your client)?

NGO is primary beneficiary but the Dharavi citizens are the ultimate beneficiary.

2.    Who are the stakeholders?

CHF (US ngo), local NGO's, government, Mumbai citizens, Dharavi citizens, other international NGO's, international media

3.    What cultural issues do you need to consider?

Because the facilitator, CHF, an international NGO, they may not be culturally sensitive and have different approach to visioning.

Concept of different perceptions in US facilitator CHF and local NGO's to be all on equal footing.

4.    What issues of power or difference should be taken into consideration?

Concept that all participants are all on equal footing may not be culturally true in India.

The facilitator, a US NGO, coordinating with local NGO's, may be some power issues since CHF will be umbrella organization and may impose some ideas on local NGOs.

5.    Is there someone or a group with whom you should consider partnering in your efforts?

Involve other local NGO's that will represent a wider range of long-term planning issues for Dharavi in the visioning process.  Community representatives.

6.    What other factors should be taken into consideration?

Previous experience, language

Step 2: develop strategy for your intervention

Then, using the resources you have been provided, work with your team to come up with a strategy for your intervention applying one of the tools or processes for facilitating participatory development introduced in your reader.

Your intervention strategy should address the following:

1.    Who are the direct beneficiaries? Who else will be participating?

2.    What are the goals and expected outcomes of the intervention?

3.    What tool or processes did you decide to apply for this project?  Why?

4.    What are the strengths of this tool or approach?  What challenges do you need to be aware of?

5.    What facilitation techniques (e.g. card and chart, bulls eye, etc) might be helpful during your session?

6.    How did you address issues of power and difference in your approach
7.    What is the goal of your intervention?

8.    What is the time line (i.e., Will the intervention be a single event such as a workshop or meeting?  How long will it take?  Will it be multiple events?  Over what time span?

Step 3: presentation and peer critique

Teams will make presentations of approximately 30 - 45 minutes to the entire group and receive feedback.  If it is possible to demonstrate a part of your intervention, please do so.

Goal: Create a shared vision between CHF and implementing NGO's on how to work together effectively to address the need of Dharavi participants (assuming that local NGO's represent local community wants)
