- Cmap Tools. To see some very helpful videos on how to use Cmap, click here. See zip file attachment below for examples of interesting maps created with this software.
- Flip Camera.
You will have access to these easy-to-use camcorders to create video
content for your Notebook, wiki space, or for documenting any other
aspect of DPMI.
- MindManager (by MindJet). To see a video that gives a quick orientation to the program, click here. THere is an excellent tutorial available to you once you download and install the program through the help center.
- Twitter. To sign up for your account, click here. You can also see a useful video on Twitter here. We will use Twitter to reflect and comment on anything that arises in the course of your DPMI participation.
- Zoho Meeting.
This is an application that lets you see what's on the screen of the
meeting host's computer and use any open application on the host's
computer. This makes collaborating on documents, presentations or maps
very simple. You can embed the details of your meeting in a wiki or
Notebook which makes it very easy for others to join (scroll down and
see below). See more details for setting up a Zoho Meeting below.
- Zoho Notebook. To see examples of Zoho Notebooks that were produced during last year's DPMI session, click here. Everyone is expected to establish a Zoho Notebook, publish it and regularly update it as part of DPMI. There is a separate page
in this wiki for you to share your Notebook's URL. You may use the
default DPMI Zoho Notebook (user name: dpmi08sm password: to be
provided in class) for any exercise. Just create a new Notebook with
this account, save it and publish it. Place the Notebook's URL in your
group's wiki space. For an excellent example of Notebook to support a team project, view here.
- Zoho Polls. You can embed a poll in your wiki or Notebook to get feedback on work or presentations that you create.
- Zoho Wiki. This will be our main tool for sharing work done and will include uploaded files as well as group-generated products.
You will need to sign up for a Zoho account (free), download Cmap Tools (free) and download MindManager (free for 21 days).
Note: Be sure to use the name and email address you list in this wiki when you sign up for Zoho and Twitter. That will make it easier to collaborate and follow one another.
Steps for Establishing a Zoho Meeting:
1. Go to "create meeting" tab and enter required info. Don't invite anybody at this step. 2. Once meeting is created, which involves downloading Zoho agent, send invitations to those you wish to invite via email or by meeting key-ID (don't send url; it doesn't function well). 3. Once a participant is registered, sharing begins. 4. Set sharing on auto if you want to be able to take turns without asking permission.
Very important: you can embed code the meeting code right into the wiki or a Notebok. This is the easiest way to get people to join your meeting and perfect for group work. Zoho Meeting functions best when there are only 1 or 2 apps open on the meeting host's machine. The meeting owner is only one who can open apps. All others work on the apps that are running on the meeting owner's computer. If the meeting owner makes another person the presenter, that automatically ends the meting. To restart a meeting, it is necessary to download the applet again. To toggle between auto/prompt control go to "edit" meeting. To choose app to run, go to "join" meeting. The Flash viewer seems to work best.
Remember: if you are invited to a meeting, you must enter the code and then click on join to start. Entering the code without joining will not give you access to the meeting. Also, please understand that there is some lag (which may be annoying) between the time data is input and when it is visible on your screen.
FACEBOOK:
You are cordially invited to participate in the DPMI08SM Group on Facebook. This is, however, totally at your option since Facebook is not one of the technologies being showcased in DPMI.
